Position Statements
- Provide information: Knowledge is power; to provide patients and their families with evidence-based, up-to-date information about all types of cancer. This is done by distributing pamphlets and leaflets, posting banners and adverts in prominent locations and organizing lectures for organizations and the general public.
- Early detection and prevention: BCS initiates a range of programs designed to increase cancer education and awareness. This includes promoting the benefits of healthy lifestyles and the importance of undergoing regular checks and screening to optimize early detection.
- Patient support: BCS offers patients advice on medical providers and available treatments in Bahrain and how to best access them. We can offer financial support to patients to reduce the financial burden and logistical worries that cancer can bring. When needed we provide assistance for patients at home by arranging in-home nursing services and providing medical beds, wheelchairs and other essential equipment. We work to ensure that each patient’s needs are met financially, emotionally and spiritually.
- Enhancing medical care: BCS works closely with the Ministry of Health (MOH) to upgrade the medical services at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) and the network of MOH health centres. This is achieved by donating new, state-of-the-art equipment to improve the services rendered to cancer patients.
- Social support: Social and emotional support is essential to cancer patients and their families. The BCS team is made up of people we can count on to provide ongoing emotional support, affirmation, information, and assistance. With many of the BCS team having personal experiences with cancer, they can help patients by sharing their experiences and helping them to develop effective coping strategies.
- Community Partnership: BCS has developed a network of partners including Government bodies, private organizations, schools and hospitals. This enables us to raise funds, organize community activities such as our annual Walk-A-Thon, and have our message of cancer awareness reach the largest audience possible.
