Bahrain Cancer Society Participation Report

In the 11th Gulf Cancer Awareness Week

#United_By_Our_Excellence | 1 – 7 February 2026

  1. A Humanitarian Journey and Giving: Three Decades of Excellence

The Bahrain Cancer Society is the first organization dedicated to this field in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Its humanitarian journey began more than 30 years ago. The Society was officially established under Ministerial Resolution No. (37) of 1991 to embark on its noble mission of promoting health awareness and providing financial and moral support to patients.

  1. Investing in Early Detection (2025)

Believing in the importance of early detection in increasing recovery rates, the Society allocated an amount of BHD 200,000 to provide the latest specialized medical equipment. This support comes within the framework of close cooperation with the Ministry of Health to enhance the efficiency of early diagnosis programs in health centers and government hospitals, contributing to improving the accuracy of radiological image interpretation and reducing waiting times for results.

Donated Medical Equipment:

Medical Equipment Purpose and Function
Digital Mammography Machine (2 units) Early detection of breast cancer with high accuracy.
Mammography Image Reading Workstation Advanced image analysis to support rapid and accurate diagnosis.
Breast Ultrasound Machine Complementary examination to ensure the highest levels of diagnostic accuracy.
Grossing Station Diagnosis of tumors and examination of suspected tissue samples.
  1. Message from the Chairman of the Society

“The 11th Gulf Cancer Awareness Week is launched this year under the slogan ‘United by Our Excellence’ to emphasize the importance of teamwork and integration. Through the Society, we continue to strengthen prevention and early detection programs to ensure the best health outcomes for the community.”

H.E. Dr. Abdulrahman Ibrahim Fakhro
Chairman of the Bahrain Cancer Society

  1. Media Coverage and Press Participation

The Gulf Awareness Week witnessed extensive media activity to deliver the awareness message to all segments of society:

  • Akhbar Al Khaleej Newspaper (Exclusive Interview – 4 February 2026): Dr. Fakhro reaffirmed the commitment to continuing serious humanitarian work, stating that the slogan reflects the strength of joint and sustainable cooperation among all sectors.
  • Al Watan Newspaper: Coinciding with World Cancer Day, the interview highlighted national and regional statistics and announced the Society’s future aspirations.
  • Palliative Care: The Society announced its direction toward an integrated palliative care project aimed at providing comprehensive medical, psychological, and social support to patients and their families throughout the treatment journey.
  1. The Global and Local Challenge: Figures and Statistics

Statistics indicate an ongoing global and national challenge that requires the combined efforts of all stakeholders:

  • Globally: Approximately 20 million new cancer cases are diagnosed annually worldwide, and cancer causes around 10 million deaths each year.
  • Locally (Kingdom of Bahrain): Data from the Society’s Cancer Registry indicates that the most common cancers among Bahraini citizens are breast cancer (ranked first among women, accounting for 41.5% of total cases), followed by colorectal cancer (among men, accounting for 16.1%), and then ovarian cancer.
  • Growth Trend: Data shows a gradual increase in the number of registered cases compared to previous years. The registry has monitored the development of cases since 2000 and their increase in subsequent years, confirming the critical importance of intensifying effective awareness programs.
  • A Ray of Hope: The Society emphasizes that health awareness and early diagnosis can increase recovery rates by up to 90%.
  1. Community Activities and Psychological Support

A Day Full of Joy and Entertainment for Children

The Society organized a comprehensive entertainment event for child patients and their families on 6 February 2026 in cooperation with Al Ghalia Company and Alzayani Investments Company. The event included:

  • Various interactive games to promote joy and bring happiness to children.
  • Exciting and enjoyable visual illusion shows.
  • Meals served in a warm family atmosphere, based on the Society’s belief that psychological support and happiness are integral parts of the journey of hope and recovery.

Art as a Means of Psychological Support (Paint a T-shirt Workshop)

In cooperation with Bahrain Trust Foundation and Safeya Kanoo Center, a specialized artistic and awareness workshop was organized to express solidarity with patients and beneficiaries. The workshop included:
